الزمن الماضي في اللغة الانجليزية
إذا كنت تتعلم اللغة الإنجليزية عبر الإنترنت، فأنت تعلم أن قواعد اللغة الإنجليزية نوعاً ما صعبة. ولكن، باستخدام زمن الماضي البسيط في اللغة الإنجليزية - على سبيل المثال، "I was home" أو "Where were you last night?" - بسيط للغاية.
لقول هذه الجمل، تحتاج إلى استخدام زمن الماضي البسيط (past simple) للفعل الشاذ "to be".
I was home.
كنت بالمنزل.
Where were you last night?

شرح past simple tense
يتمثل الاختلاف الرئيسي بين الفعل الماضي والمضارع في ما إذا كان الفعل الذي تصفه قد حدث الآن أو في الماضي. فيما يلي بعض الأمثلة على استخدام الفعل "to be" في كل من زمن المضارع و الزمن الماضي في اللغة الانجليزية:
Verb “to be” in past simple
I was a huge fan.
You were going to college.
We were happier last year.
They were at home.
Verb “to be” in simple present
I am a huge fan.
You are going to college.
We are happier this year.
They are at home.

I, he, she, it – was
You, we, they – were
بالنسبة للشخص الأول المفرد والثالث المفرد، استخدم الكلمة was. في جميع الحالات الأخرى، استخدام were.

لطرح سؤال، يجب أن يكون في بداية الجملة was/were:

استخدام الشكل السلبي Verb to be في الماضي البسيط
في الجمل السلبية، أضف الظرف لا وضعه قبل الكلمة was/were.
تذكر أنه في معظم الأوقات يتم استخدام الاختصار (الصيغة المختصرة) في الجمل السلبية:
wasn’t = was not/weren’t = were not.
He wasn’t at the cinema with us.
لم يكن معنا في السينما.
We weren’t at home on Sunday.
لم نكن في المنزل يوم الأحد.
I wasn’t hungry.
لم أكن جائعا.
